    Default First Razor

I'm thinking about buying a George Butler "Keen" 5/8 straight razor. It'd be my first. Any thoughts?

sounds good to me. as long as it's in good condition and properly honed it should be good.

If it is full bladed with no damage to the blade or the scales (handles) or uneven hone wear it is good. Not knowing your source I would agree with the previous posters that you should have it pro honed if it isn't coming shave ready. If you take a look at the SRP classifieds you'll get an idea of price averages for the razors listed there to give you an idea if your in the ballpark value wise.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
