Day 8, not quite DFS - PGS?
Well, today marked day eight of SR shaving. Full shave WTG, quite a bit of XTG, and ATG on the cheeks. I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel! It's definitely getting easier and closer.
Today's shave was the best yet, but still not what I'd consider a DFS, let alone BBS. So, if the acronym, hasn't been taken, I figure it's a Pretty Good Shave (PGS).
Forward part of the chin is still difficult, and XTG on the upper lip isn't really removing enough stubble for my taste. However, I will continue to press forward! The ATG passes on my cheeks removed enough that I could see it will eventually compare favorably to my Mach 3. (Heresy, I know, but I've always gotten excellent performance out of them. I just can't stand paying for the blade, and the whole process lacks soul.)
The main thing is, I'm really enjoying the routine. It's been a long time since I tried a shaving brush, and when I last did, I clearly didn't have a clue what I was doing. Now, I'm getting awesome warm lather that smells great!
Equipment now is:
- King Razor "Duke"
- Filly strop
- Proraso cream and/or Conk Bay Rum soap
- Tweezerman brush
- Nivea AS balm
- Occasional splash of Old Spice (I'm considering adding a nice Bay Rum, and looking for candidates - Ogallala and Royall are on my list.)
I'm thinking if Christmas money comes my way, I may buy a beginner's Dovo from SRD, in time to take advantage of lifetime honing by THE hone-meister.
Cheers,
Fred

Thanked: 1903Nice setup, and a good start, I'd say. As far as the XTG passes on the upper lip are concerned, try stretching more. I go in 2cm steps starting on the cheek, moving towards the nose. This requires some getting used to, but it works (for me).
Keep us updated, indeed.

Robin

I'll give that upper lip technique a try. Thanks!
Shortly after I posted, I got an email from Brooks Brothers that they were having a one-day sale on men's accessories, including the Royall line, 40% off! I ran over and picked up Bay Rhum (sic) and Lyme AS. With the gift cards I had, my total out-of-pocket cost was $8. My kind of shopping day!

Snag some of the Ogallala when you get a chance, everything....and I mean EVERYTHING I have tried from them has been wonderful(heck, my wife loves the stuff as well), and John at Ogallala is great to deal with.
Good luck with you next shave, it only gets better with time, it's been almost a year for me and I am learning new tricks and better ways every time. Keep at it and always remember, enjoy your self!
