    Post another introduction

I guess it would be about time for an introduction after a good 5 months of straight razor shaving and lurking. I basically went off the deep end the cheap way. My start was with the cheapest Dovo 5/8” Best Value I could find. I honed the razor with the glass stones I had around for my Japanese cutlery in the kitchen, up to 8K. Finishing was done with some Dovo red and black paste on two of the four bench strops I made myself for about $25. Judging by the streaking of the once mirror edge I would guess the red paste didnt help the edge any at the 8K level. However, the black paste did polish the edge off a bit before the unpasted strop.
The learning curve was quite steep for about a week but I am pleased to say the results, when I put in the effort for more than one pass, exceed what I could do with a cartridge razor which will not be named. I like the Colonel Conk soap in almond as well, but will give some Kabinett soap a try here after a while.
The next step will be a vintage razor or two from the classified section, hopefully shave ready.

    Welcome p1zz4b0x !

I am impressed you got your fist razor honed and had a decent shave your fist time. Just goes to show what you can learn from SRP if you take the time to browse the forums enough.

Definetely pick up a razor from the classifieds if for nothing else than to compare its edge to yours.

Keep us posted on your progress and how it develops

Welcome and kudos for your progress. The idea of acquiring another blade with a honed edge is a goodie IMO. Good luck.

    Hello,
Sounds like a good start. No matter how much your edges improve, the fact that they're working better than the cartridge at this stage is great!

mbwhoosh, why have you linked his profile page to his name? Seen it done a couple of times recently & i don't understand why.

Welcome to the board. I'm a newbe here myself. I also have the Dovo "Best Quality" along with a few more costly razors. Don't sell this razor short. The BQ has slowly become my go to razor, gives a great shave even compared to razors costing much more. Stick around you'll learn alot here.

Welcome to SRP and smooth shaving.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    My dear Ben,

I will be honest it was late when I posted some of these posts and didn't want to misspell the persons name due to grogginess so I just copy pasted it without even thinking about the link
