Default My first time experiance with DE razor

So I have posted here once before to introduce myself and get a little info, but I thought I would follow up on my first time shaving.

I waited until Christmas and it paid off. My wife bought me a Murker 1904 #42
    (Amazon Link)

and from what I can remember the infamous tweezerman badger hair brush (Amazon link)

My wife initially got me some cheap soap/brush (Burma shave) (Amazon link) so I am still using that soap with a new old spice cup I got for Christmas as well (Image). Also I used some Lord premium blades from the same kit I got as well.

A lot of new stuff to try out all at once (the blades I don't really think as a novice that I will be able to differ what I like much yet).

So on for the shaving. I started off watching some youtube videos months ago to find out the right way to do everything. I lathered up and it all went pretty well. The soap seemed to foam up nice enough to get a good shave in. I went WtG (I think that's the right way to say with the grain) and I only nicked myself twice (on an in grown hair and a small pimple/blemish).

I think overall it went pretty smooth. I noticed after rincing off that I hadn't completely shaved some hairs off. I had shortened them (hair was about 1/2-1/4 inch long when i started) but there was still some stubble. So I relathered and did the whole process all over again.

After everything was done I thought about my experience and it was pretty good. I noticed a few times that the blade/razor jumped/skipped a little due to the skin not being smooth enough (I am guessing). I also remember reading about using oil/pre-shaving items (or even olive oil if nothing else... but I didn't use any of that).

The blade was sharp, the razor felt pretty comfortable (weight was good, the length could of been a little longer for my taste but not too bad) and I think my angle/shave was pretty good... definitely need to repeat to get the process down to more of a science.

I am open to any ones suggestion on making my next experience better. I tried to be as detailed about it as possible to allow for some constructive feedback. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. Lastly, I forgot to mention I finalized the shave with a cold face bath and some Nivea sensitive skin after-shaving balm.

i don't have very much experience with DE, but sounds good so far.
i think it's best to work on the lather for now and not bother with pre-shave oils. or try them, just keep in mind that until you can get consistent and repeatable results with whatever you're doing, changing too many things all the time makes it harder to figure out the bottleneck(s).
