I would check with SRD if you want a new one and see whats available. But you may also want to check the classifieds here @SRP, you never know what you might find. Welcome to SRP.

The gold dollar razor has had decent reviews and you can get one with a beginner strop from ruprazor very economically.

Hey, welcome to the forum, I'm new as well, and I'll recommend some things that I'm sure most members will agree on, some will suggest getting a used, yet excellent condition straight from the classifieds on this site, as there are some reputable sellers. Or you can opt for something new, I see the Dovo Best Quality straight as a fair enough price. You can get them from several vendors, I recently got a Dovo Genuine Red Bone, from SRD, and I am satisfied with it. Make sure to get a strop, as well as a decent brush, and cream/and or soap. I'm sure others will add input as well, good luck and enjoy.

Check the classifieds for one of the razors on this
Good Straight Razor Brands - Straight Razor Place Wiki
list.
Also the Wiki has lots of good info.

Thanked: 143I would not make that a priority. Too limiting. I have seen no reliable data to back this up but I suspect at least 75% of straight shavers have a non-stainless (i.e. carbon) blade as one of their primary razors.
I said 75% to pick a nice safe conservative number and wouldn't be surprised if it was actually over 90%. But still, I have no way of knowing for sure.

Rolex1979 - The most economical quality new razor, in my estimation would be, as TexasBob, suggests, a carbon steel str8 razor. Some are less than $100.
If your heart is really set on a stainless steel str8 razor, however, check the Straight Razor Designs or Vintage Blades LLC websites under their Dovo links. Both have a number of stainless steel str8 razors which vary in cost. Remember, though, that the variety of str8 razors is more limited when looking for stainless rather than carbon steel.Last edited by jhenry; 12-30-2009 at 12:24 AM. Reason: grammatical error

Rolex1979,
If you are new to straights & straight razor shaving, I would buy a lower-end priced carbon steel razor such as the Dovo Best, along with a strop and importantly a practice strop.
From my experience (I hope I wasn't alone in this !! ), the first razor and strop have a bit of a hard time; stropping problems, nicks on the strops, rolled edges & dinks on the edge of the razor etc; all seem to be part of the right of passage
Best of luck !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
