Default Shave Ready... but how ready?

So I have ordered my first straight and according to the FedEx tracking it's waiting for me at home. It was sold as a shave ready blade and I trust that this is true.... Does that mean I don't need to use my strop and I can literally take it out of the container and start my first straight shave?

you should ask the vendor you bought it from, they're the only ones who would know. when i sell a razor as shave ready, that's exactly what it means, but everybody seems to have slightly different idea.

Yes, assuming it is truly shave ready you just wipe off whatever protective oil is on the blade and shave without stropping for your first shave.

In addition, we are seeing the term "pre-sharpened" being used which can be confusing as this term means factory sharpened which is not the same as if the razor was actually honed by someone.

I would like to point out at lest one exception to this. I bought a Revisor and the email I received to tell me it had shipped included instructions telling me to strop it before the first use. I forgot all about that by the time I got the razor and got a less-than-perfect shave from the first use. (I made the assumption quoted above.) I soon remembered the email, stropped the razor, and got an excellent shave the next time. It is now one of my favorite razors.
