Default Just ordered my 1st razor

Got a Dovo Micarta on the way from SRD I know should brought a cheaper razor for my 1st. But ever since I started thinking about getting a straight razor that one spoke to me and that lifetime honing was killing me.

Sometimes getting what you want straight up can be better and cheaper than upgrading several times, if you can spare the money. Congrats.

    Rolex1979,

The Dovo Micarta is one of my favourite razors; it was so good I ended up buying two (2), one ivory, one black, to act as my daily razors

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have mine !

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

    Rolex1979,

I agree with the previous posts...Purchase what appeals to you aesthetically as well as what you can afford. Whatever floats your boat. Str8 razor shaving is as much a labor of love as it is an affordable pastime. Sometimes its best to follow your heart, rather than your pocketbook.

Like you, I didn't purchase the cheapest Dovo str8 razor. Nor was it the most expensive razor either. Yet I derive genuine pleasure standing in the mirror with a face full of lather, my "Black Star" in my hand and removing the whiskers from my face. And you will too with your "Inox Micarta."

Welcome to SRP Rolex. Don and Lynn came to our last meet and brought a bunch of SRD's products with them. They don't sell junk so anything you picked up from them would have been fine. I also had my eye on the Dovo Micarta when I was starting out. It took a while but I finally found a gently used one and am very pleased with it. You can always pick up a cheaper razor to practice with along the way. Good luck!

    Default Congrats

I did the same thing last night although I order the Dovo Special Tortoise 6/8". Heard they were awesome shavers just not all the bells and whistles. Figure if I get the hang of it and really enjoy it I can always get another one. We should get them around the same day so we'll have to compare notes on how it's going lmao. Wish us BOTH luck!!!!! Dave

Kempster for sure on the comparing notes the wifes grandfather talked me into it. He said it wasn't as hard as you think and would still use a str8 if he hadn't loss half of his index finger years ago. His father was barber and he told me to lather up ballon and practice on it Next time I go down his place I am going to see if he has any of his old stuff still.
