Default Can I use mineral oil to coat my blade when not in use?

I have read on this forum about using mineral oil on a SR Blade. Would this work ok?

I just don't want to order Camellia until I have more to order from SRD. I think it would be better to hold off on this 8$ item until I need some other supplies.

I use this on some of my plane blades after I hone then store them. I would think it might be a hassle with a razor and cleaning before stropping etc.. I just strop after I use the razor to make sure it is nice and dry! Good luck

Mineral oil works great. When I'm done shaving, I put a drop of oil on a tissue and "strop" against it-- my goal is to oil the blade's edge to protect it from corrosion. Then I wipe down the rest of the blade since I happen to be holding a tissue with oil on it... I doubt I need to do that as I don't live in a very humid place... but it does not hurt.

I just wipe it dry with a clean tissue before I strop with it on my next shave.

I used the razor for my first time yesterday and it will be about 3 days between shaves maybe more maybe less. I just wasn't sure.

Don't worry about it-- unless you live in a humid environment you don't really *need* to oil it. Many people on this site never oil their razors unless they are putting them in storage.

Stropping it cleans up the edge anyway... so I probably don't need to oil it at all but it is cheap insurance. My razors stay sharp for a really long time, but I have not done any experiments to determine if oiling the edge helps keep them sharper longer...

You could use just about anything too protect your blade. Alot of people use mineral oil, vaseline of even a gun oil. Just be sure to wipe to blade clean before stropping or shaving with it. I happen to use mineral oil or a product called Coon P.
