Thanked: 01st shave with a "real" straight razor
i just received my first real straight razor today (i've been using the replaceable blade type for a couple months while i practice and study), a dovo bismark 5/8. outta the box i did the hanging hair test, and it didn't cut. i ordered it from srd, so i didn't have any doubt that it was sharp/shave ready. still i decided to give it 25, well thought out strop strokes. i used it and it shaved beautifully! i love it.

Yours is a common reaction to a great shave with a professionally honed, quality str8 razor. Congratulations!

Did you notice a difference between the Dovo and the stra8 with disposable blades?

Thanked: 0defiantly. when i took it out of the box i was intimidated by it for a quick second. i have the tendency to treat it very delicately, because i don't want to ding the blade. using it, the first thing i noticed, was how wide it was, and the weight. it's heavier, and easier to handle, it also kinda felt like the weight "plowed" it through the whiskers easier. a much closer, and more confidant shave. i can tell the stropping is gonna take time to feel out.
