    Default Just tried it out!

OK, so I just tried the straight. Got the strop hanging (going to need some contact cement), strop the razor, make the cream, nick the upper lip, try the left hand for fun, nick the left cheek, razor burn the neck. Call it quits after nicking the cheek. Finish up with the cart razor, strop the straight wife walks in while trying to tell her to stop cause strop is near the door, drop the razor catch it and cut the thumb.

All in all a first try . Few thoughts make more lather, put only a little lather on at a time you are slow. Don't try to switch hands unless you hate your face, and go get some vitamin E to cool the burn. After a good right cheek and right neck area I felt brave I should have left that left side alone.

Now for the questions, how long until the nick burn goes down, styptic pencil took care of the bleeding but I still burn a little. 2. How do I build up my left hand it was pretty unsteady and shaky.

Those spots I got are very nice after just one pass. Directly under my chin and my cheeks are fantastic, when I get good at this I am going to be touching my face all day.

how long it will take to heal only God knows. every person is different. now please when you shave don't push the blade too hard. it has to just slightly touch the skin. gl

lather all your face... you want the lather and water to
soak a full three min. After you reduce/shave a largish
part of the face relather your whole face so the unshaven
and cleared parts do not dry out.

One good systematic pass with lots of short strokes, re-lather,
then use you free hand to feel for missed patches
and give them a single once more pass with the grain.

Rinse all the soap off with cool water and pat dry.

Hey, glad to hear you tried it out this weekend(following up from your previous post). Your wounds will heal in a day or 2. The Stypric pencil will help a ton.

A couple of things to mention. First off, it seems like you got the edge right. The nicks and the fact that you are happy with your cheeks and chin is all positive indicators. I will highly recommend when you are starting out. Please, please, please get up about 1/2 hour before everyone else in the house.

You don't need the frustration of:

    1) Someone walking in on you and bumping you(as you've already ecperienced).
    2) Someone sitting there and staring at you as you do it.
    3) Someone asking you when you are going to be done because they want to brush their teeth(this happened to me this morning).
    4) To sum it up - you do not want to be rushed.

This is your time, your experience, and your experiment. It is quite personal really. You have to remember that no one else gives a damn and they likely do not understand why the heck you would want to do it anyway(especially early on).

When you heal up. Get up a bit earlier or do it after everyone has gone to bed. It sounds like you are off to a decent start.

I gave it a second try today. I went a little slower and tried to watch my angles more carefully this time. I did both cheeks and the upper lip with no nicks. The other cuts still haven't fully healed but I didn't add to them so it was good. I left the neck alone, but I did do under the chin and neck there and it all went well. Just a bit more experience and I'll give the full face a try.

    Thanks
