New and borderline discouraged
hi im loving this forum. ok so for xmas i ordered a straight razor off amazon, after watching gangs of new york and sweeney todd. sweeney todds blades fresh on my mind thought that would be cool. while awaiting delivery i put google to work researching the art of shaving. by the time my blade arrive i knew that it wasn't going ever going to be shave ready(didn't care just having a blade to play with was enough), i went to walmart and got a mug/brush/soap set, and i found out the point of the strop and made one from some leather i had laying around for education. so my knife arrives and i was ready to shave. since then Ive obviously nicked myself not that i minded(gangs of new york 'the blood stays on the blade'). ive shaved maybe 5 or 6 times since then. i have have learned all i can from this blade without becoming discouraged in straight razor shaving.
so my problem is this. im so broke it hurts. so its going to be a good while be for i can actually afford anything decent. I really want to enjoy this, i think its a bit of a life changing hobby and economic. i really want to just go shave right now, but i know it would be a waste of time. I don't want to lose interest so is there anybody that could possibly direct me to a truly cheeeaaap razor that is shave ready?
thanks any input is welcome

The classifieds here @ SRP are your best bet, everyone here has a reputation to protect.

yeah the best price i see at the moment is here for 35 but i dont really think that will be there by the time i have money. so how often do cheap razors come thru here? i like the gold dollars at ruprazor but a little out of my price range for the moment lol.

Thanked: 1I see cheap ones pop up from time to time(under $45). The Gold dollar would probably be your best bet. I got one from Ken about 6 months ago. Ive only had to strop it on the pasted side of one of his strops either once or twice.

I agree...First try the SRP classifieds...If that fails then go to Ruprazor.

You're probably going to pay $15-$30 for Mach3 blades -- a single straight razor should last you a lifetime.
What razor did you get from Amazon and did it come directly from Amazon, or from a separate vendor? You might ask about the return policy on whatever razor you bought; I haven't searched Amazon extensively but I'm pretty sure that most of their non-shavette razors are on the do not buy list.

About gangs of new york: No, the blood does NOT stay on the blade
