All of them, probably as soon as possible.

Jimmy and Northpaw: I know what the full range of stones reccomended is, but those are if you need to set a bevel, sharpen, polish, and finish... I need to know which of those are pertinent to someone who only buys pro-honed, and just needs to maintain... I thought I'd only need a 12k/barber hone (I STILL don't know the difference, other than abrasion speed) for upkeep and that would be it...

I can't afford every stone, and I also don't want to drop the cash on a stone form every grit bracket when I can afford it.. I want to know what I need to keep my professionally honed razors going.

    Thanks

Bench scopes are easily available on the BAy. Mine I got for $79. I think it is great to have, for fun and elucidation.

Get it without a camera, you don't need a camera. But you do need steady magnification. A loupe's drawback is you and the workpiece need to maintaina set distance constantly, and your will be swaying around, etc. The benchscope has rack and pinion focusing that takes care of that and keeps it all steady.

Hmm, then why did you ask in the first place? Go take a look at some of your edges and see what you think.

Many guys get by in that situation with a barber hone. Sham has had a lot of them. You could shoot him a PM and see if he has one to let go. Or keep your eye on the classifieds or ebay.

Its nice to have some magnification up to about 30x However its no panacea. If you have microchips enough to affect the shave you'll know it sure enough by the shave. If they are so small as to not affect the shave then you don't have to worry about it. Some people spend too much time fretting about this stuff. You can take the best honed razor in the world and look at it with an SEM and you wouldn't want to use it. Check out Edmund Scientifics, they have a variety of magnifiers at all price points and if your someone who has to have the best Deutche Optik has those types. Many just use the cheapo radio shack piece. It all depends on how much detail you want to see. Remember its all about resolution not magnification.
