updates from a newbie striving to acheive mastery of the straight edge
well you all probablly remember me as the rookie who started with a shavette instead of a true straight razor - well that was then and this is now....I currently have 3 straight razors that needed honing but I have not been able to mail them off yet....well I have now received two great hones in the mail and I have 2 or 3 more straight razors coming in the mail next week...can anybody say RAZOR ACQUISITION DISORDER is a good place to start???
So anyway Im pretty dang excited right now....especially with a three day weekend coming up I plan to spend a good bit of time learning to master the honing technique.....ohh a good bit of that this weekend as well as well as a few good stogies (no symbol for that one)

Hehe! Glad to see the aquisition disorders are in full flow..!
Good luck for this weekend!
The best tip I can give you with honing is to make sure the bevel is properly set before you move onto a higher grit stone. Make sure you can shave arm hair at skin level all the way along the blade when you come off your bevel setting stone. Then, and only then, move up to the higher grits. Otherwise you'll just be polishing a duff edge..!
Other than that, have fun and enjoy!

I hone on the 1k until the blade cuts armhair ABOVE my skin , before I move up to the 4k .
