Thanked: 1First (partial) shave with a straight razor
Well, that's over with! Shave-ready razor arrived today (thanks LarryAndro!), so I decided to take a crack at the little patch around my sideburn. Prepped the face, lathered up (though I just couldn't get the lather happening today) and set to work...
The angles were a bit wonky at first, which accounts for the one small nick I got, which was done its thing before I was even finished, but after a re-lather and another pass, I think I was mostly with it. Not BBS, as I only went WTG, and the skin feels a touch irritated, but not bad at all for a first go, I don't think. Followed up with a thorough wipe-down and a pret-ty brutal stropping. So we'll see if I have any kinda edge left next time.
But yeah, that wasn't so bad!
Question: I live in Northern Alberta, which is pretty non-humid, and I'm storing the razor and strop away from the bathroom. Should I oil up the blade, or will it be alright if it's thoroughly wiped down, and no humidity?

BenjaminBarker,
Nice job...Keep it up.
As for care of your str8 razor...My own thought is that it wouldn't hurt to apply a little mineral oil to the blade once a week or so--even if you live in a supposedly non-humid climate. I do.
