Thanked: 2virgin no longer
First shave today no cuts but a hell of a case of razor burn all part of learning curve I imagine. All I have is VDH brush & deluxe soap,C.O.Biglow(poraso)cream I went with the cream. Now I going let my face heal some but I also get strop for the 1st time also worried about ruining the edge.I'll give a progress report next shave.

Thanked: 125Congrats on your first complete shave!
As for the razor burn... Yes, that will go away in time once technique and skill improve. Try to make sure you are not using too much pressure, and stretch that skin!

Rolex,
Im brand new to SR as well, so new im about a week in. Like you i use VDH brush and kit with C.O. Biglow cream. I was gettin a little razor burn just under my jaw line and someone recommended for me to use Shave Secret pre shave oil. Ive used it on my last two shaves and it has worked wonders in preventing razor burn and from nicks. The Shave Secret comes in a little bottle but you only use 3-5 drops and you can get it for around $3.00 at any Wal-Mart, if its in stock.

Part of the razor burn issue also might be that you are using too much pressure, You need to let the weight of the blade do the work for you. You should hear the razor cutting but not really feel the blade running across your face. Good prep is a must also. I am not sure what your prep is but you might want to try a hot towel before you lather for a couple of min. Lather up lightly and apply another hot towel for a couple of min then lather up well and go to town

Thanked: 190Try light and easy passes. My face would get a little red starting out as I was still adjusting to the light touch of the straight razor. I used a Glycerin based shaving soap and that was huge improvement over what I was using for the M3.
It will usually be a two or three pass success story. Then you refine your technique you may get it down to 2 or 2.5 passes.
Keep up the good work, you are doing well and don't rush the success, it will come.
