Thanked: 530Having a new problem...
So, I recently got a new Omega 11137 Boar brush from my girlfriend, and I just received my new creams from CarrieM...I decided to try the lime -sample size- today, and had a weird occurrence... No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get decent lather.. I've been using a cheapie Amazon Best BAdger brush, with my creams and soaps (this includes a sampler of CarrieM's lilac.) and got great lather results... I've tried the Boar on a Mama Bear's soap and got good lather.. .So here's my problem, when I used the Boar with Carrie's lime, I couldn't get anything... Does the Boar need to break in more before it works well with creams? Or is a boar mostly for face lathering and soaps?
I used a soap and face lathered, it worked, I used a soap and mug lathered, it worked so-so, I used the cream and NADA.
Or, could the water in my scuttle be to hot, and that's the problem?
I'm leaning towards the boar not being broken in enough for creams, but I figured the scuttle may be it..
What's the rundown?
Thanks!
EDIT: It also took half of the sampler jar for me to get out 3 passes... My brush looked lather laden, but it never put more than the thinnest of lathers on my face unless I put another dolop of cream in the scuttle, whipped it and went STRAIGHTAWAY to my faceLast edited by ShavedZombie; 02-02-2010 at 08:52 PM.

It may be that your brush isn't broken in enough, I'm not really sure, I've never used a brand new brush before, just a broken in one given to my by my bro, after he got a new one.
If it really took you that much cream, it sounds like you may have just had too much water for the cream. I have found that going from one type of cream to another, even in the same brand, there can be different water requirements. For example, when I went from the TOBS Sandalwood to the TOBS Avocado, I had to use less water with the Avocado than with the Sandalwood. Just a thought.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Thanked: 530Actually I had VERY little water... I figured out where the problem was though... Now I have some other weird ones, these are just for conversations sake
Bearing in mind I have a SUPER CHEAP best badger from amazon, and an Omega Boar (really good boars, but mine isn't broken in much yet)
I tried TOBS with both the badger and boar, both were fluffier than I like it -not sure why, it was like foam- however, with proper whipping, the badger became more like whipped cream, and the boar became slightly soupy, but EXCELLENT lather and TONS of it from both
Tried CarrieM's lilac with both, I got less lather than the TOBS, but higher quality lather (lubrication and whatnot) it felt more cushiony from the badger (better fluff) and slicker from the boar (better glide) ... Odd, but understandable... sorta
Tried soap with both (Mama Bear's Pine) The slicker, more spreadable lather was from badjer, but the boar got a better feeling/result lather.
I'm getting stumped.. I think I need a good Badger brush (eyes on a Stephen's Woodworking from SRD, or a Semogue 2015HD)

Thanked: 530Thanks Carrie, however, I'd feel bad if I said it was a universal problem. WHile the lime had me stumped, every other cream I've tried from you has given me magnificent results
Not to mention that the lime still gave me an excellent BBS shave, I just couldn't get the lather to fluff up like your lilac or sandalwood.

Not a problem at all. I am more than happy to do so.

Thanked: 530All my problems have just been alleviated, and my Carrie's Cream is now everything I could want and more! A quick phone call from Carrie (great customer service!) gave me a simple nugget of advice that vastly changed by experience.
- Use less water at the start, whip it good, use water once it's starting to foam and look rabid
- You actually CAN use too much cream! (duh >.< I should have realized that.)
- (The nugget Carrie gave me) "You're using a boar brush? Get aggressive with it! It's not going to break on you." ... Aw.. hell... Duh!
I had been getting amazing results with my Badger but the boar just gave me paste, no matter how long I swirled... Then, after talking to Carrie, I started with less water, used less cream, whipped hard, added some water, whipped hard and FWOOOOM!! Mounds of lovely slick wonderful smelling creamy lather!! YES!

I got an inexpensive Omega badger brush off Amazon and I'm extremely pleased with it. I can whip up lather in the mug, but I prefer to paint the soap on my face and use the brush to lather it up.
