    Smile problem with razor/honing

I just started the razor shave, but im having problems with honing the razor. It is a hen and rooster made in spain and iv got a norton waterstone 4000\8000. I have watch the videos on honing and i fill im doing it right , but its just not getting sharp. I think it is a bad razor b/c when i lay the razor on the hone it wont lay flat , it has a gap to the begining of the razor. If any one know of a good razor for around $30-$50 or might know what im doing wrong please let me know

Welcome to SRP. It is not uncommon to have a razor that won't lay flat on the hone. My suggestion would be to send it out to a honemeister so you have at least one 'shave ready' razor. Forum members who perform that service are here in the classifieds. You might pick up another one or two and break into honing slowly with the pro honed razor as a benchmark for your practice honing. Check out the honing section in the SRP Wiki here for more detailed information.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

For a good razor for $30-$50, check the classifieds right here on SRP.
