Thanked: 1anybody hear or use this razor?
I am new to straight razor shaving and bought a straght razor off ebay. Honestly I was hoping I wouldn't win the auction but ended up paying $50 for this straight. The overall condition is very good blade is polished and blade is sharp. I am pretty certain this is a usable straight. Ok the name of manufacturer is FOX Cutlery co. on the box and the blade itself. It also said it is made in Soligen Germany.
Anybody know about this co. and their blades? Looks to be a good find although I don't know as I am new to straights.
Any feedback will be much appreciated.

do you have any pictures?
I don't know about that brand, but if it really is made in solingen (not just painted or stamped solingen like some zeepks are) it may be a good shaver... I gotta ask though, how did you end up winning an auction you didn't want to win?
you may want to check this thread though for more info

Thanked: 1I know it sounds crazy but I am new to ebay and I put my maximum bid in at $50.00 not knowing I couldn't go back and reduce my maximum bid. Long story short the damn thing was bid up to $50 and I was obligated to pay for it.
I will try to post pics for you so that you can see it. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Well hey, if it's a Solingen and it really is in good shape, that's not bad at all.
But in the future, I'd recommend looking in the Classifieds for razors until you come to know how to spot a dud. There are LOTS of those floating around Ebay.

Thanked: 1While I don't know a whole heck of alot about straights....the blade is sharp, polished, scales are in decent shape, opens and closes smoothly and is stamped "Solingen". It looks totally legit to me so I don't feel like a complete moron...lol!!! I am buying a new dovo from straight razor designs for comparison and to see what a really sharp razor feels like.
I don't feel like I overpaid for this straight just wanted to find out if anyone else had any experience or even knows of "Fox" cutlery.
BTW I tried to post pics of it but can't seem to figure out how to get the images on the forum. anybody know where I can find out how to post pics?

That's a good plan. Never hurts to have a couple razors in the wings when you first begin, just in case you dull one of them. I found that out the hard way!
Depends on where you want to post pics from. When you get to the "Reply to Topic" box, there's a bunch of buttons above the text box.
If you want to post a picture from your computer (i.e. not a link, just an image), click on the paperclip on the top row, next the font, size, smilies, etc. From there, you can browse your computer for the image. Then hit "upload."
If you want to post a picture from a link, click on the little planet icon with a chain link infront of it in the second row, then enter the URL of the image.
We'd all love to see it!

Well, you lucked out!
Soligen blades are good. There are lots and lots of different companies that source from Soligen, but it's the same steel and it's good quality. We have Fox brand straights catalogued the Wiki too:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/srpwi...Fox_Cutlery_Co.
Now the question becomes, is it shave-ready? The best blade in the world won't give a good shave if it hasn't been honed up properly.
Does the auction say if it comes shave-ready? If so, how does the seller define that? If the auction doesn't say, drop him a line and ask.
If it's not shave-ready, that's easy enough to fix. Have a look in the Classifieds under Member Services for a honemeister near you who can put a real good edge on it for you.
Don't forget you also need to get a strop to keep the edge sharp for as long as possible. Without that, it will wear down just like a disposable will.
Have fun!

Thanked: 0Your New Fox
Good luck with your Fox. Being new to straight razors you might want to look into sharpening techniques. There is a great write up on the "Scarey Sharp" technique of sharpening Razors , Wood Chisels etc.
I have had excellent results using this technique.
Good luck.
