Fresh honing and stretching the skin
After using my new "ready to shave" Dovo Special approximately 8 times I sent if for honing and also purchased another razor from Straight Razor Design.
I received my razors yesterday and had some time this afternoon to shave. I found there to be a huge difference between a freshly honed razor and the off the shelf factory "ready to shave" razor.
So here is some advice from a New guy to other new guys: GET YOUR NEW RAZORS HONED PROPERLY!!!
I am also learning that stretching your skin while shaving also makes a huge difference. I had a really great shave today and the warden (wife) ran her hand over my face and said "It feels like you don't have a beard."
I had a couple of tiny nicks which I'm sure with practice and patience I'll avoid.“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

Thanked: 13Your'e correct...stretching the skin makes a huge difference. I stretch the skin with every customer,no exceptions!
Stretching combined with the correct angle allows the razor to more easily glide over the skin. I also use stretching as somewhat of a test. If the shave is bumpy when I start, then I will stretch the skin a little more to try and "smooth out" the shave. If this doesnt work then I know something is wrong with either the razor or the preshave.
Keep at it. Sounds like your patience is paying off.

Really...
i bought a factory "shave ready" fully hollow dovo (anniversary bridge) and used it followed by a prima klang from str designs and although i haven't used either extensively i have used both and as of now i can't say i've noticed a vast difference...maybe slight but only negiable to me as of today.

I find myself in a similar position to Mvcrash, I have a new dovo, which I have shaved with a couple of times, but following advice from other members. I have ordered a new razor from shavingshop. com
So I await with excitement its arrival, at which point I will send my factory ready razor for honing
