Newbie with a LeGrelot from Martin - WOW!
Today was my 27th day of straight razor shaving. Yesterday my LeGrelot arrived from Martin (Thanks Martin for a wonderful buying experience!), and my shave this morning was a miracle for this newbie. I am 95% BBS! I had a couple small areas where I forgot to shave on my 3rd partial pass that’s really just a cleanup pass.
I’ve a couple Dubl Duck razors that could not be sharper, but the LeGrelot combines sharp with smooth - who knew?! I’ve a Joseph Allen & Sons 1/4 wedge that is almost as smooth, but not anywhere near this sharp! My Wester razor just seems to want my blood and my Samples & Sons razor was never a contender...pretty smooth, but it just did not want to make my beard run in fear.
So, do I sell all my razors except the LeGrelot and buy more before Martin sells out? I figure you too have that special razor or two that made you happy from the very first shave.... what razor made you smile with happiness?
Late thought...Martin must be a genius with honing too! He hones them before sending them out.Last edited by GardenWeasel; 03-07-2010 at 10:21 PM. Reason: late thought

Nice story!
For me it is the Filarmonica Doble Temple #13.
I'm not sure it's because it is sharper or smoother than the others or what.
Perhaps it's just because it was my first self-honing(Got is as NOS), or maybe because of the really cool sound I hear when I do the stroke down the sideburn area right next to my ear.
Anyhoot, it just makes me smile and enjoy the shave a whole lot.
It draws less blod than the others as well, for some reason. That helps tooLast edited by Birnando; 03-07-2010 at 10:28 PM. Reason: spelling error

you may want to give some of the other razors another chance
just because another man at the hones can give slightly different results
after all tuning a razor is personalpreference too

Well, my first razor was a 6/8s TI with horn scales and I thought it was as good as it gets until I got my Dovo with pearl scales which I thought was the best until I got my DD Goldedge which I though was the best until I got my first Livi. So you see where this is going. The more you get the more favorites you get and the better thay seem to get.

I have a Grelot from Martin. It shaved like magic when I got it. Feels more like my others now though. (Martin has the touch on the hones!)
I asked him what he uses last year. He said he uses Naniwa's plus TI paste on a paddle strop. So I've been doing that too.
