I sure hope Im not the only one who has ever cut their lip before with a straight razor.....It sure was a lot of blood from that cut....talk about my daily donation of blood. Well I wont be rushing around my lips tonite.....still learning.....

I still tend to knick myself right at the part of skin which joins my nose to my upper lip. Nothing severe, but it bleeds alright.

Thanked: 22No, you're not the only one to cut thier lip. I've been shaving with a straight since this last August and I just cut my lower lip for the first time this past Friday. It wasn't bad, actually more of a nick than anything but I still consider it to be a cut. I was in a little bit of a hurry (like I shouldn't have been) and accidentally caught it. I've had 4 cuts since I started: one on my right ear lobe, one on my left ear lobe, one on the left corner of my mouth and the one from the other day. None of them were bad but all of them happened when I was running a few minutes behind getting to work. Of course, you will always have the standard nicks or weepers from time to time due to small bumps, pimples & etc.. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about those and are pretty much the same as using a disposable or DE.
Well, I hope that lets you know you're not alone. LOL! Welcome to SRP and keep up with it. It's kind of funny when I think about it. I never did cut myslef in the first month. Probably because I was paying extra special attention. It wasn't until I started getting a little settled with the straight when I got my first cut. Ya think complacency could be the culprit! LOL & happy shaving!

Here is the deal. Although we know darn well the razor should never move sideways, sometimes the contours of our face makes contact with the motion of the blade and forces it to move sideways instead of the direction we intend.
Try to create flat spots on your face, anticipate the contour changes, and evaluate teh amount of pressure you're using to hold the blade. You might be using too much or too little.

BK,
Nicks and cuts go with the territory of str8 razor shaving. Still, I hope the cut on your lip wasn't too bad.
