Thanked: 4It doesn't need to cost a lot :)
I just wanted to let everyone new know that you don't always need to spend a lot to have quality gear.
There are decent stops and decent gear for reasonable price without sinking the boat.
Recently I just went to Walmart and picked up another shaving cream bowl and couldn't be happier. I dropped a whopping $2.35 on a ceramic bowl out of the kitchen section and it is perfect for whipping up lather.
All for the cheap price of $2.35.
It isn't always about the price. Enjoy the shave.

All it take for the most part is a little effort and you can find good deals on just about everything. Except for a Mastro Livi razor I am still looking for that deal

I always thought 'a lot' is relative.
I build the lather directly on my face, which makes for huge savings in bowls which I'm using for razors

I built the lather on my face as well, but, recently ripped off a cool little bowel from a member of the fairer sex...actually, I just borrowed it. Like being able to keep the later warm while resting it in a basin of hot water for re-lathers.
True on the shavings...I have found as well that their shaving soap, (green box), makes a wonderful lather that I prefrred to a more expensive varitey and it was under 2-bucks a cake...Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Thanked: 77True - I'm still happy with my $2 brush and can get by happily with a $2 shave stick.
I made my own strop - can get leather fairly inexpensively at wholesalers / leather merchants... of course in the U.S. you can buy a practice strop pretty cheaply.
Razors - can get very reasonably here on the classifieds.
Barber hones - can get pretty cheaply if you're patient.
Of course... if you decide to hone your own (beyond touch ups) you could get into a bit of HAD. (I've been pretty restrained though).
It can be as affordable or extravagent as you like!
All the best,
Michael.

Thanked: 1185In the soap category you just can't beat Arko Shave Stick and any variant of VDH. Of course Omega Boar Brushes are the cat's pajamas and finally after years of trying I think I've finally got a hold of a really good VDH brush. Not to mention Aqua Velva, the entire Clubman line, and Murray and Lanman's rose cologne and/or Florida Water.
