    Default Hone cleaning

How do you guys remove grayish metal staff of your hone? Should I just lap it?

Soap and water to start. Rinse well.

With me it depends on the stone and how much it is loading up. I keep a fingernail brush at the sink and scrub the stone down with that under running water or if it is a synthetic that has a lot of swarf I rub it out on the lapping plate.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

most of the time, I can rub it off with my thumb under running water (if I catch it early), or I lap it

I just rub mine under running water with a green-backed sponge. Cleans them up a treat!

I only lap them after a few hundred passes.
