This is a link I posted with pictures of a belt that I cut off about an inch and a half or so from the sides, sanded from 250 to 2000 grit paper and treated with Hot Glove...I like it better than anything else so far.

Sometimes leather ( especially belts ) has a sealer finish on it somewhat like a thin varnish which will scratch and nick an edge.I used to use it on my sheaths and holsters. I would try it and if it does, you can clean it with acetone and it will remove the finish.

I would just buy a RupRazor Filly as your first strop and keep the belt for lifting weights. While the belt may be fine, if you use an improper strop or strop improperly you will ruin the edge on your razor. The problem is if you do screw up your edge you won't know if your lousy shaves are because of the strop or because of you.
