Default Love the scales, hate the blade.

I think I may have asked this before but:

Can I get a blade replaced? My first razor was a Dovo Ebony. My second was a G-Stahl in ivory from someone here at the forums. The Stahl shaves like a dream, the Dovo gave me constant problems.

As a newb, I figured it was me. Bad stropping etc. One side never seemed as sharp as the other, it made a different sound on the strop. Well, I brought it to a hone-master, and he said there was a curve in the blade (along the horizontal axis, not a smile).

So I took a piece of 1 inch balsa and made a combo paste/leather dingus, which resulted in a reasonable shave. The thing is, I only want 2 razors. One ivory, one ebony.

I'm getting sick of having to deal with this one's shape. I've had it since August, so I dont think it would be right to call the vendor and ask for a replacement. Basically, I'd be fine with paying $50 to have a new, straight, dovo blade put in the existing scales. Or a vintage blade would be fine if its a good shaver.

Is this a service available from someone around here or would I need to send it to Germany? Or should I suck it up, stick this thing on a shelf and buy a new razor?

    Thanks,

    -Mike

Sorry, but your story doesn't make any sense to me. You did ask this 3 months ago and have been playing with this blade for 6 months. You have not shown any pictures and without seeing what kind of honing you have done to it as well as your hone master, it is hard to tell. It would also be worth putting the blade between to straight surfaces to see if there is actually anything wrong with it at all. Why don't you send it to me and I'll hone it for you on me and take a look at it at the same time.

i dunno what to tell you about that razor man. i have the ebony spike point and it shaves like a dream.... i wouldnt take such a new razor and do that to it.it is possible you messed up the edge stroping it you could send it to someone on the forum here and get it honed for 20$ and know its good to go and give it another try and see how you do from there before you start sending a new razor to the shelf just to collect dust

If the blade is in fact warped and you don't want to deal with it, you can often find decent vintage blades or blades with broken scales selling very cheaply like $10 or even less on ebay and either rescale it with the ebony scales or have one of the restorers do it for you. You could also post a WTB in the classifieds and see what turns up

Buy replacement ebony scales + select vintage blade of choice = problem solved.

Big +1 to that... you have been given the opportunity to not only have a blade honed to perfection, but also to be evaluated by Lynn. It's an opportunity to learn what you may be doing wrong, and to get a load of useful info. This would be well worth your time.
