Hello from Albany NY
Hey there everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I have never shaved with a straight edge razor but I am looking to make the jump. I started wet shaving back in September and switched to a Gillette Super Speed at the same time. I haven't looked back to cartridge shavers once. I used to have shaving. I actually wanted to try straight edge back then but I was afraid to give it a go. Now the itch has become even greater. I have been reading all the facts and everything for a while. So I will scanning the classifieds looking for something. I was going to buy something new but a vintage razor for less seem much more cool.

Welcome to the group. You will find we have quite a few people from New York State as members. Myself being one of them. If you have not already read through the beginner section of the wiki, it would be a great place to start. Here is the link Beginner's guide to straight razor shaving - Straight Razor Place Wiki.
Going with a vintage razor from the classifieds is a really great move. There are always some very nice razors for good prices available and most of them are shave ready so you don't need to be concerned about sending it out to be honed.
Let us know if you have any questions and one of the members here will get back with you with the answers.
Good luck on your journey, and if you are interested to meet a few of the local Western NY guys check out the meet up we are having in May. Would love to see you there. http://straightrazorpalace.com/get-t...y-14-16-a.html

Welcome to SRP.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Welcome to SRP! CarrieM has some good advice for you. Also read through the WNY meet May and search for past meets. This is a good place to get one on one help from the people at the meet. I know it's a bit of a drive from Albany but you can make a weekend trip out of it. Who knows, you may find something you like.
