    Default Proof I'm Nuts - 2nd Shave

    Str8 shaving is really addicting....

For my second shave i went full monty on my face. I watched a few videos online over and over again and well, i became determined to do or die... ( btw when one of your room mates is a full time EMT you start to get real brave about some rather stupid things sometimes!)

I saw on a thread that CVS carries Wilson shave soap.. i really like the smell, so i tried it.. hey its a buck.

So yea, with no regard for personal safety I did a full shave with the grain, decided i didn't like how the Wilsons felt, used my van der hagen for a atg shave. Everything is super smooth except two spots, there a inch down from my ears on my neck and about a inch in. Even with my mach 5 i cant ever get those spots.. am i just not getting the angles right or something? So far I still have a better shave with a str8 but if i can overcome those spots....... id be soooooooooooooo pleased.

any tips or tricks i should be wary of?

    Recommendations:

    1) This is a gentlemen's forum and where some fine men come together. I'd recommend not masking F-Bombs in thread titles

2)Regarding soaps and creams: From SRP's WIKI - FAQs

Get them. And get quality. Some experienced members would go as far as recommending to spend significantly more on creams et al than on your first razor, brush, or strop
That "Wilson" soap is no good, and neither is VDH. Sure, you can make it work, but why?

    3) Enjoy the journey

I have edited the thread title in the interests of good taste.

Aside from that, jolly good and carry on!

I am not very clear on where this spot is, but if it is just under the jaw line neither a Mach3 or a straight will get this spot easily. With a straight you would want to go against the grain with a very low angle and turn the razor outward as the skin curves outward.

A second option is to use the opposite hand and pull that skin up onto the jaw line and shave it there instead. The hand goes over the head and grabs the skin at about the sideburn area and is lifts the skin up.

A Mach 3 is simply too wide to change angles that quickly.

I come up from behind the ear and ride over the spot I think your mentioning.

It takes a while and a good bit of experimenting to find what works best for you. Watch alot ov videos and try what looks like it could work.

A dissenting opinion: I’ve always gotten good service from Williams and Van Der Hagen soaps. I guess my skin is too stupid to appreciate more expensive products.

A rule of thumb for those hard to reach places is to stretch the skin until that hard to reach place is somewhere reachable.

Only two shaves so far? Sounds like you're doing okay and way ahead of the curve I was on...

    I remain &c

Congrats on diving in rather than dipping your foot in the water. As the previous posters have said, as you continue to shave with the straight you'll find alternative stretches and blade approaches of attack that will work in problem areas. It all comes with time and experience and even after a year or two new discoveries are made in methods of getting those pesky whiskers.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
