Default Filly and Green paste help

How do i use the green paste on the back of my RR filly strop? Do i just flip it and strop normally on the back side or do i somehow put it on the front of the strop? Thanks in advance for any help.

The green paste is just an abrasive that will remove some metal while you strop. You strop on it in the same manor as the other side. However, be sure that you clean the abrasive off the razor before you strop on anything else to avoid contamination with abrasive.

Well the way you would strop would be the way you would on the backside of the filly(spine leading first), but honestly i havent gotten really any results with the amount of crox and the texture of the leather( i know less is more ) but thats just my experience , if i were you just buy some crox and some balsa, it will work better, good luck!

I went for almost 3 months before I ever used the paste on the back of my filly, however I was rotating 2 razors and shaving every other day, it brought back a nice sharp comfortable edge in 5 passes to both. Since then I use it about every 5 or so shaves, depending on the quality of shaves the razor is giving me. It works great, imo, and I see no need to buy another flavor of maintainence device, as of now, but that might change as I become more experienced, or I start to get bored with the same old shave, as good as it is, and try to improve it. There is a post around here with a quote from KenRup, where he said to use the paste every 4 or 5 shaves, but to limit laps to 4 to 5.

The paste is chromium oxide, it is used to touch up the razor when it starts to pull or dull a little. All you need is about five passes on the paste, that's it. After a while the paste will round the bevel of the razor and it ill need a honing for a touch up.

How do you get the heel sharp? I know you strop in the X pattern, but do you do a wide enough X so the heel crosses the paste? If so, then doesn't the shoulder get in the way of the blade touching the strop?

Experimenting yourself is the best thing! Try it out and see what happens, just be careful.
