Finally took the plunge.
I've been doing research, reading lots of threads, the wiki and everything. Product descriptions and checking out different vendor sites. I finally decided and bought my first straight razor set =D.
I got the Dovo best quality 6/8 straight razor wet shaving set at Straight Razor Designs.com I opted for the black mug and the blood orange scented soap. I also got a styptic pencil for the cuts I am bound to get. I'm planning to get a aftershave balm from Nivea that I have used before with my regular shaving that I really liked.
So, when that package finally comes in, the journey of straight shaving will begin ;D I can't wait to try it and get into it. I hope it all goes well and I really like it as much as it sounds like I will.

Congratulations on taking the plunge.
You have a nice beginner's str8 shaving ensemble of equipment there. My one suggestion is that you also get some type of astringent--either witch hazel or an alum block--to close your pores after the shave.
Relax, you'll do just fine. Converting to s gtr8 razor seems daunting at first, but be patient, take it slow and everything will be okay.
Take care--and smooth shaving."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Glad to see a beginner who has done their homework. Well done. You'll be pretty well off with that set. I've seen some people opt for the 3" strop, but it is always personal preference. Good luck

I'm confident that you will more than like the razor.
I know that mine are my children.
Just remember: NICKS HAPPEN. I got about 12 my first shave day, but now I can shave without even razor burn. It there is a learning curve about 4-6 weeks before you start to get decent, I would say (and by decent, I mean no big cuts, little if any razor burn, etc). It takes time to achieve perfection. If straights were only as good as electric shavers, then nobody would buy them today (unless they're die-hard traditional like myself....haha).

sounds like your all set to go.
Just remember that it`s a hobby. try diffrent products and teqniques and find what works for you.
The studd i use and the way i shave probably won`t work on your face so it really is up to you to play around. It worked for me.

We'll all be waiting to hear how it goes. Don't forget to watch Jockey's videos on YouTube if you haven't already. You should have them bookmarked!
I've been using the Nivea Extreme Comfort aftershave balm exclusively, and love it. It's a bargain to boot.
