Thanked: 0Bamboo Magnetic Razor Holder
I wanted a way to display my razors and also keep them handy for use. The bamboo knife holder seems to work well. The magnets pull the razors into where the magnets are lined up and there are five spots that are evenly spaced out. I only have two razors now but am anticipating getting a few more.
Is it a bad idea to store the razors in the bathroom where they may be more prone to rust? I wipe them down with an oiled rag after use. The blade’s edge doesn’t touch the bamboo so I am not worried about the holder dulling them.

Thanked: 5It's a neat concept, but I've read numerous times that magnitizing a straight razor is bad.

Thanked: 33Hi Rdavidw,
Nice razors!!
This is a great idea-although i personally woud not display my razors openly like this.
maybe i'm being a bit too old fashioned but it doesn't seem too safe as these are very sharp items and I would not leave them open anywhere in the house-even the bathroom-as kids and/or animals could be attracted to them unless they were in a room that was locked!!
However not everyone has kids/animals so if your ok with that then fine.
Have fun
regards

I wouldn't allow any razor to click against a magnet for fear of chipping it and if it should ever slide off the magnet and fall it will most likely be done for. If you hate shaving with them so much please send them to me.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the feedback. The edges of the blades do not touch anywhere. The magnets hold the razors firmly by the spine. They can be pulled off easily to side but it takes a good amount of force pull them straight off or to drag them down. They will not slip off accidently. They can be held fully closed or partially open. I have them up on the wall out of the reach of small children and pets. I shave with them daily and have my strop hanging in my bathroom as well.
My original concern was the amount of moisture in the bathroom that may lead to rusting. I did not think about the possible detrimental effects of the blades becoming magnetized. I have read that some older razors were intentionally magnetized as a marketing gimmick to be better shavers. I wonder if the thin edge of the blade could slightly bend towards the magnetic draw over time? The magnets are fairly strong and the blades edges are only about ¼” away from them. I have been looking at the edges with a 400x usb microscope and they seem to be in good shape so far.
Thanks again everyone.

Ive been wondering that same thing about the steam in the bathroom and water vapor causing rust. I understand when you use the acutal blade and need to wipe it down but is it safe to leave it in the bathroom not in use?

As far as the steam issue, I just wanted to mention that I've noticed that the amount of steam (and the moisture it imparts to nearby objects) that can build up in a bathroom changes dramatically depending on lots of variables, so the fact that it may seem okay now doesn't mean it is okay.
Personally, I take a "better safe than sorry" approach, and I wouldn't leave mine exposed anywhere near a shower, period.

so is it best to just leave it in the bed room on a desk or shelf or smoething of that sort?

I have always recommended against using these for kitchen knives for 2 major reasons:
1 The surface between the block and the blade offer a quality environment for moisture to take up residence.
2 When you magnetize your steel, the filings from honing tend to stick to the steel causing nicks in the edge.
