My uncle gave me my grandfathers razor last year, I honed it,
stropped it and shaved with it. There for a few moments it was like he was still with me sharing the moment.

Get it honed, it will be worth it, check the classifieds here @ SRP!

My grandfathers Henkels and combi coticule I have also a Shumate from my great grandfather, still working on the scales...

Heirlooms like this are a great boon and a tangible connection to the past and family. Something that I think is lost in todays disposable society.

Well let me tell all of you my secret plan. I have ordered a shave ready blade and will be learning on that once it arrives. It has some blemishes that I will work on clearing up. I then want to buy other blades in various conditions and then to slowly learn various skills like restoring the blades and scales. Over time once I get confident and start churning out nice blades I will move on to the heirloom. It has been 23 years since this blade has been used, it can wait another year as I hone (pun intended) my skills and then I can restore this blade myself.
