I actually have made soap from scratch, but really am curious of what recipes people use. There are a lot out there, I've already found some I don't like.
I just received a cool gift from a potter friend of mine a mug I'm going to try a picture with my cell. This picture also has my homemade aftershave, a bottle of glycerin and my anthony d. Jacoby neptune razor (inexpensive).

If the wife is stealing your soap you must be doing pretty good!

"It lathers better than my soap" SWMBO. Btw her soap costs $9 a bar from a local soapmaker, who just melt and pours basic glycerin soap and adds EO and occasionally abrasives. Can we say ripoff?

Thanks for this thread. It's cool to see someone do this without breaking the bank (which often happens when people get to talking about their expensive blades, soaps, etc.).
Good luck in school,
Erik

Very nice. I like the curly maple on your shaving brush handle.
You are a very resourceful gentleman. I hope you can get the shaves you want/need from a straight razor. To be sure though, the first few will be rough.
This reminds me of how I got started building guitars. I started playing a crappy bass when I was 16. I had been through so many instruments, that my mom and dad would not let me get a good bass. I had $35.00, so I bought a book and a bunch of used parts and talked our woodshop teacher into letting me work after school on my first bass. The rest is as they say, history.

Thank you it was a toss up between the maple and a holly burl I have, but they tend to crack no matter how dry they are.
I've been shaving for about 3 weeks and other than the occasional forgetfulness of watching the point, I still am not getting a close shave on my neck and around my mouth, but I'm sure I will. The neck I can make 2 passes before my sensitive skin tells me about it. My mouth is just figuring out the holds I think.
I've always tried to make my own items. I actually was a cabinet maker and we used to use the shop after work to build our own guitars

I would guess I could have set up for about $60-70 if I didn't have to have the best knot or would have bought my soap etc.
