Thread: I need a stone/In Iowa

I have been wanting to practice honing for fun as of late...I have been shaving for a while now and that has been a fun experience.

So is there anyone in Iowa who knows where to get wet stones around here? Or if there is a great website that i could get something cheap. for Example I found Colonel Conk type blade on Knife Center. I'm Not just gonna take that for the price and find out that it can't get one of my crappier blades to shaving capacity.

It'd be great if i could just get some help .

I believe Lynn is selling some Naniwa synthetic water hones at Straight Razor Designs.

So they are reasonably priced. I have a blade that I shave with...but will not be touching it any time soon. There is a blade that is capable of shaving already but nicks are evident. That would be my practice one.

What grit would be best for that?

can you see the nicks in the edge?
If so i guess you will need the full setup of hones

1k- 5k- 8k and maybe 12k for finish

+1 on the Naniwa stones.

If your budget covers it look at the Naniwa Value Pack of three hones.

A work horse hone if you have no other hones may
well be the Norton 4K/8K combination stone that can
be found on other sites is a purchase I continue
to be pleased with.
