    Default My first Shave

Well, I broke my new Dovo Prima Klang in this past weekend. I started with all the beard prep that I have learned from this forum and began to shave. I must say, the past several weeks of watching and reading have really paid off for me. I have been researching and studying the art of Straight Razor shaving well before I ever took my Dovo out of its box. I did a complete face shave without a nick or cut. I was slightly impressed with myself. It felt as though I have been straight razor shaving my entire life and this was only a handful of times that I have ever touched a straight. I had a little razor burn on both sides of my jaw angle but was remedied with a block of alum (WOW, will that wake you up!!). I only did one pass on my face with the grain and could not believe how close it was. I had some minor difficulty with the jawline area and neck. It seemed as though I did not get very close on these areas and realized it will take some time. I did have some slight discomfort at times with a pulling or tugging sensation that will disappear with time and practice. I attempted the coup de maître (with thanks to Jockeys You Tube video) and I did not have much luck at all. The razor seemed to dig into the whiskers when I tried to scoop, I proceded to shave from side to side on the upper lip. All in all I am very impressed with the Dovo Prima Klang and I want to give props to all of you here on this forum and from Straight Razor Designs.

Congrats! Glad it went well, it sounds like you are off to a really good start!

Just take your time and only shave more of your face as you feel comfortable with handling the razor. It just gets better from here!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Pleased to hear that your first str8 razor shave went well.

Some razor burn is to be expected as your face adjusts to the blade. It will go away after awhile as your face adjusts and you lessen the pressure you are applying to the blade as you become more comfortable holding the razor. Detecting some stubble on your jawline and neck is also to be expected. Those are two of the most difficult areas of the face to shave. Your face hair grows in numerous different directions. Follow Stubear's advice and things will only get better over time.

One last piece of advice. Splash your shaved face with some cold water after shaving and before applying the alum block. Doing so will reduce the sting.

    Take care--and continued smooth shaving.

    Hi
Looks like you've done your homework and started very well-not many people can get through their first shave without nicks or cuts!!
Use a little after shave balm to soothe that soreness.
Take it slow and steady and you'll have many more.
    Congrats and smooth shaving.
    regards
    Noggs
