    Default SR and Flying?

I couldn't figure out were to post this so i decided to just use the beginner section (Since I am one). Anyways, I am going on vacation in a few weeks and I am wondering if it will be a problem to put my Straight Razor in my checked suitcase? since it wont be near any other passengers. Have any of you traveled with your straight razor? Im flying Delta there and US Airways on the way back... thanks

I don't think security would be an issue, but perhaps theft would be.

I haven't traveled by air with my straight yet, but when you do, be careful how you pack your straight. You will want to secure it in some way so that if a TSA agent needs to hand search your bag before it gets stowed on the plane there will be no danger of him injuring himself.

Back when I was still self-injecting Enbrel for inflammatory arthritis, I carried a small plastic case to place the used syringes in (you can't just toss a used syringe into a hotel room wastebasket). I taped a piece of paper onto the case on which I wrote:

    SHARP!
    Used Syringes

And if I were to travel with a razor that was very valuable to me, I would not pack it in my checked luggage. Airlines have misplaced my bags on occasion--one time for four days. They do not always return lost bags.

I would pack my valuable razor in a small box and ship it by Post Office Express Mail or Priority Mail--with delivery confirmation--to myself at the hotel where I'd be staying, addressed to: "Morty (my last name) -- guest" and call the hotel to ask them to hold the package for me. Then I'd ship it back home again to myself at the end of my trip. Sounds like a lot of work, but that's just me.
    Namaste,
    Morty -_-

Perhaps calling the airline and asking what their policy is ? I definitely wouldn't want to take any razor I valued highly. Maybe a time to bite the bullet and go with disposables when you get to your destination,
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm flying back East next month, and I've been wondering how to pack my shaving kit. Maybe it's time to buy a DE and start practicing.

I've never had problems with it in checked in baggage. As others have suggested don't take one along that you can't abide to lose and, though I haven't done so in the past, I wil be taking, Morty's advice on packing and labeling next time, thanks for that.

Do also note to take care of your gear during the vacation if you stay at a hotel. There has been few wrecked blades here that were devastated (dropped/ left in a puddle etc) by curious cleaning staff.

Checked baggage has been fine in my experience, but hand luggage is not. Make sure you put the razor in something like a toothbrush holder to stop it getting bashed around.

I wouldnt take your pride and joy though, just in case the bag goes missing. Airlines are pretty poor at finding lost luggage, and you certainly wont get all the money back for it. Plus the fact that you'll have lost something thats important to you, and the sentimental value is far higher.
