Thanked: 1903It's funny you should mention that. Having tried a few creams in my time, I've come to the conclusion that saying, 'Cream XYZ goes a long way' is a bit like saying, 'Member XYZ is 7ft small'. Basically all good creams I know go a long way. There are some rare specimen that do not, and those should be contrasted with the standard

Thanked: 335Stub,
There seems to be a lot of good products out there. I've tried some of the expensive ones and some of the cheap ones and have had good luck with most. Of the cheap ones my favorite is Speick. It doesn't have the most dense lather, but it works very well. Omega is good; Erasmic was good, but is refomulated; Taylor of Old Bond Street is good, Nancy Boy is good; Vintage Blades cream is good... the list is long.
Generally the products which have been arouond a while are good choices. I prefer creams because they are faster for me to generate lather. Soaps are typically more cost effective in that a cake of soap will last seemingly forever, but I need speed in the morning to be able to get to work on time.
Good luck choosing - it's probably more difficult to choose a fragrance than it is to choose a good product.

Thanked: 8If I had to pick one soap it would definitely be Pre de Provence and for my one cream I would choose Frasers original which is cheap, comes in a big container and is amazing - every bit as good at Trumper's Coconut, T&H 1805, Taylors Avocado, etc.

One vote for Tabac
I don't have tons of experience with various soaps and creams, but I just recently tried Tabac, and loved the scent and the shave I received ... best ever. I had used the Castle Forbes, and maybe it's just me, but the shave was not as smooth and more irritating ... it did have Excellent lather, and a great smell, but the shave was noticably harsher than with the Tabac. Just my two cents ...

Thanked: 1262Every time i think I have the the last cream/soap i will ever buy, i try something else that trumps it.
I remember at on point thinking Col Conk soap and my tweezerman brush were the shiznit and I would never need anything else....

My current favourite soap and cream aren't much use to people in the US, but for the record, they're these respectively:
Nanny's Silly Soap Company Handmade soap - natural luxury skincare - Lavender improved recipe soft shaving soap - 100g net - vegan
Henk’s Scheerkraam
(For those unfamiliar with Dutch, Henk's a chemist who makes shaving soaps, creams and balms in his spare time which perform unusually well - very slippery stuff).
Back in the real world, I see no reason not to go for Tabac as it deserves its reputation; Irisch Moos is pretty much the same stuff but with a less "challenging" scent (I prefer the former). Cella, I'd venture to suggest, is a better performer though, as is Mitchell's Wool Fat provided you don't suffer from hard water.
As regards creams, any Taylor of Old Bond Street flavour should fit the bill; most of the British creams seem to be made by the same company, Creightons, by the way, which may explain why I can't tell much difference between them, except price. For citrus lovers, Old Spice Fresh Lime is far better than one might expect.

The Fat, The Fat, The Wooly, Wooly Fat! (Phrase shamelessly swiped from Tat2Ralfy). MWF has a great scent and gives me a good shave. You can buy just the puck of soap for about $13 US. I like the shave that Proraso cream gives, but I'm not jazzed about the scent. You can try Proraso for about $10 in a smaller tube at Bath & Body works under the name C. O. Bigelow. Same stuff, just packaged by Proraso for Bigelow.

I just tried the Burt's Bees shave cream and it worked well especially for someone on a budget. I liked the sent and you can find it at most major retailers ( Target, Walmart, etc.. ). I also like Nivea shave cream as well. I have those since I can get them locally. I have not gotten the shave cream/soap bug yet.. maybe that will happen after I get my RAD under control.
