I went through the same thing. I decided to just go for it and if I didn't like it I could always sell the thing. So far so good, and I'm still shaving with my first razor, an inexpensive Dovo.
I know I made the right decision now, and keep in mind when you buy a "real" straight razor the expense is often in the scales. The same blade can vary $100 (US) and the only difference is asthetics.

I would tend to agree with the previous posts. Personally, I would prefer the regular straight razor rather than the Feather. Once you master beard prep, stropping and blade angle, a low end Dovo can provide you with a quality shave every bit as good as a much more expensive razor. And as ziggy noted, the diffference in price is in the aesthetics of the scales, not the quality of the blade.

i have never used anything other than a feather artist club dx.. it was my first foray into straights.. i had originally planned on getting a real straight but liked the idea of not having to hone or strop.. going from a mach3 to a feather was a big difference.. but i'm glad i made the step.. it took me about 3 weeks to get great shaves.. i started with the professional blades and then switched to the lights.. i don't see myself ever using anything other than an artist club.
