New Wapi
Hey all,
It's been quite some time since I've been on here, with a new baby, and a lot of working, I just don't seem to have the time I used to. I wanted to say that I am now the proud owner of a NOS Wapi. Got it off the Bay, and it just came in, gleaming, and in immaculate condition. I could not be happier. I am tossing around the idea of throwing on some different scales, but just not sure yet. I am getting ready to hone it up, and was wondering if anyone had some thoughts as to whether or not one piece of tape might be a good idea in order to keep the hone wear down? Looking forward to shaving with this beauty, and will let you all know how it goes!!!

Thanked: 199I have a few NOS wapis and I used a single piece of tape since I was just learning honing but honestly, those edges are pretty good so you could easily get away without taping the spine and very little spine wear if you use a light touch.
Edit: see you live in PA, if you're anywhere near me I'd be golad to help if you have any honing issues/questions. Where do you live?Last edited by avatar1999; 05-12-2010 at 08:45 PM.

Having had a few Wapis rescaled for me over the past year or so, I would say keep the stainless on.
Think about it - how many non-Wapi razors do you see around here with stainless steel scales?
Stainless steel is a near-indestructible, easy to maintain material for razor scales that you just don't see every day. The fact that Wapis already COME with them pre-installed from the factory is uber-cool and makes them stand out from the crowd.
They're perfect just the way they are.
If you're going to rescale something, make it the cheap warped plastic scales off your next 'bay score.
Just my two cents.

Hey, thanks for the advice. I will definately have a few things to think about with my first Wapi. Well, off to hone it up and try our first shave together. Thanks again!

The first time I pcked up my Wapi and felt the heft of the scales, I said, "I'm changing these babies." It's been three years and when I look at that nice polished finish, I just can't bring myself to do it. Maybe in another year or so. Or maybe not.

Hey all,
So here is a problem I am having when honing this Wapi. I started honing and noticed that when I lay the razor across the hone (Norton) the edge near the heal is not coming in contact with the hone. Any ideas on how to fix? I know my hones are straight, I use them on my other razors with no problem.
Thanks guys.

your best bet would be to send max a PM and ask him.. we avoid discussing prices in thread.
as for the honing.. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that your blade isn't exactly true... this wouldn't be incredibly abnormal for the wapi's I've seen.
how does it sit on the hone when you flip it over?
Depending on how the blade is on the other side, you may need to use different solutions.Last edited by Del1r1um; 05-13-2010 at 04:36 PM.
