Thread: Scared after small ding

ok, so i was shaving today for the second time with my new Dovo Best Quality from SRD. I was nearing the end of my shave and i ran the razor under some water and wasnt paying attention and accidentally dinged the razor slightly on the bottom of the faucet. I finished my shave and didnt think anything of it until after i dried the razor and saw a small ding in the blade. It is near the heal of the blade and it is rather small and i was able to strop it out mostly. However, it is still slightly visible. if it doesnt affect my shave should i not worry about it? I plan on purchasing a 12k grit stone from SRD in the near future for touch ups. Is this something i can more than likely work out with a few passes on the 12k? or is it something i should send back to lynn for my free honing?

When you say ding are you referring to a dent or a chip ? It would be best if you could post a close up photo if you want advice on it. Otherwise it is just an educated guess.

It's hard to say without pics, but normally a ding in the blade requires more than a 12k.
I'm surprised to hear you say that you almost stropped it out? Normally, a ding (dent, chip) in the blade will leave horrible cut marks or lines in your strop. I bought a DD Goldedge one time and didn't really inspect the blade all that well, When I stropped it up, it left lines in my strop. When I looked closely, I could see a little ding in the blade. Lesson learned...My advice to you would be to send it to Lynn, especially if your new to honing.

The real dilema here is whether it was better to leave lines on the strop or on your face... Your face will heal but the strop feels no pain.

same thing happened to me , small tiny chip however it was in the middle, sent it to Lynn came back better then ever, and gave me an excuse to buy another razor as a backup

And this is why I wipe the lather from the blade rather than run it under/into the faucet! My guess is the blade will need to be rehoned, from the bevel up.

ok, well i tried to take a picture of the spot on the blade. first of all i had trouble even finding it again, it is barely visible to the naked eye and the camera couldnt pic up ANYTHING. Should i wait a few days and give it another shave test and see if it affects it at all?
