Thanked: 66when to shave the hair growth?
ok...so I'm always into experimenting with my face and computers as my job being a PC engineer..lol...my question is this...
I have a pretty coarse beard and can shave even after 24 hours later as I get a nice thin layer of coarse hair...
as I experimented last night I gotta descent shave and finally trusted myself and "Mr. Blade" and went xtg on my cheeks but my chin still needed some work..so whats the difference if I wait 1 day or 2-3 days b4 shaving again..is there usually more work involved in reducing the hairs that increase or am I better off with shaving every 24hours?...my skin is very sensitive and my wife and I were shocked NOT to see razor burn or blood drops on the sides of my mouth as I always got that from my DE/SE handles...+1

My skin needs time between shaves. I only shave every other day at most. The amount of hair doesn't matter at all, just what your skin can take.

Thanked: 1195+1 with holli4.
This question comes up every now and then, and all that really matters is how much your skin can take. By whisker length alone I could possibly shave every day, but my skin is fairly sensitive so I shave every other day at most.
If you wait a few days there *may* be a little extra work when hacking away at whiskers, but it's mostly negligible. But the longer whiskers will provide a bit more for your razor to "grab" at, providing an exceptionally close shave IMHO. Uusally around the 3 day mark for me.

Thanked: 2591+1 with the above, it all depends on the skin, I can shave every day with no problem.

Thanked: 0well, my skin is pretty sensitive - I've been reading a lot of cream and soap reviews looking for one that is better on moisturizing and protection - and I have been able to shave for at least the last 6 days straight. Yes, I put on a nice layer of Nivea balm afterwards but even that didn't use to work when I was shaving with just shaving gel and a Mach 3 and ATG.
I still haven't moved onto my chin much, though. Just moved from cheeks (where I usually have the burn) with WTG and XTG to WTG on the chin and WTG on the little back of the jawbone area.

Thanked: 66Hmm..I would stat away from canned anything...AOS or Derby shave cream I feel works well!...especially with a scuttle I ordered from SRD that would keep my lather warm for sensitive skin me from going back n forth if need be to get more lather..my caswell Massey cream in the black jar is a pain in the rear as I have to get the water to cream ratio just right!..annoying

When to shave . . .
Gentlemen:
I would never think of depriving myself of the joys of wet shaving with a straight razor except maybe one day a month for variation.

As long as your razor is shave-ready there shouldn't be an appreciable amount of extra effort for it to cut through your whiskers. It all comes down to what your skin can tolerate.
You may find that shaving every day but doing only two passes instead of threem or one pass instead of two will reduce any irritation from sensitive skin.
I know when I first started I could only get a BBS shave by doing three full passes. As I've become better with my razor and stropping, and angles, and pressure, etc, I've found that one pass WTG and a sort of "hybrid" pass where I go XTG in some places and ATG in others gets me a perfectly BBS face.

Thanked: 190I can shave every day, but there isn't much to shave and it just amounts to touch up strokes so I can keep the professional look. I like it since the strokes are XTG/ATG and the shave is over quickly, such as a single pass.
Great shaving soap, face prep, and moisturizer is the key to my everyday shave.
I love shaving multiday growth 4+ days the most. Now that is a treat!
