Thanked: 190It may come to you over time, but its not required. I can use both, but the right gets most of the work. I just keep the left involved for fun.

Thanked: 33If it puts you off shaving by adding a new difficult dimension -then don't bother to learn using your left hand -I tried once or twice and it felt so strange I never tried again.
There are difficult angles to master when shaving the left side of your face with your right but it all comes together in the end.
I now have learned to shave using just my right hand and my shaves are as smooth as you like and sometimes BBS.

I too had the hardest time with my left hand, but while I was using my right I couldn't see my face in the mirror. So which was more dangerous not seeing what I was doing or training both hands to str8 shave?

With only 3 straight shaves under my belt, I fully understand your hesitation with using your left hand. That being said, I have incorporated my left hand in every one of my shaves, and even with the few I have, I'm finding my left hand is getting better. I did find that some angles were just too akward with my right hand and as was said, while reaching across my face, I couldn't see what I was doing which made me uncomfortable. Just keep at it. Maybe start out small and each shave try and do a little more with your left hand. That's what I'm trying to do and it seems to be helping. Good luck.

As a fellow newbie, I can sympathize with your fear of the left. I have been forcing myself since the first shave to use both hands. I find on places where I feel I need a bit more control I default to using my right, but honestly, the worst cut I've gotten on my left side came when I wasn't paying attention and started sing my right hand to shave my left cheek...
Good luck and may your ambidexterity come quickly!

Thanked: 18on my first shave I quickly abandoned the idea of the left hand, only to come back to it on the second shave. I'm now at my 7th and already a lot more comfortable with left. Just do some easy parts, maybe only a piece of the cheek, just to get a feel for the motion. From there you will develop muscle memory and you will be able to get a feel for things.
It has worked for me in many other areas of my life: piano, martial arts, guitar, throwing stuff etcetera. I'm sure you can come up with things you do left handed that you couldn't do before you started learning to do it. The point being, that it's probably not so difficult to learn as long as you regularly practice.

I tried letting the guy operating the left hand drive a couple times in the beginning, but he scared the crap outta me, so I put a stop to that. Recently though, I've let him operate the razor from time-to-time, and he gets better with time.
Be patient and take your time. You'll get there!
Cheers,
Larry

Just go slow and easy you will get the hang of it.
