Howard gets a rub down...
This weekend in the U.S. is the Memorial Day holiday. With respect to my shaving habits, that means I can go three days without shaving because I don't have to go to the office today. This came at a great time for me because I get some time to let my face heal up and the skin can rest...
I've been very tempted to shave, because I want to keep the progression of learning going. The compromise I found was to practice my stropping. I found this has been very helpful because I could focus without any of the anticipation (good or bad) of the shave itself.
Today was a big step for me. I have been trying very hard to always use a very light stroke and to keep the spine in contact at all times. Despite my best efforts, I've always noticed a distinct difference in the sound the razor makes against my filly strop when I'm pulling it towards me as opposed to the stroke away from me. It was sort of a light zing on the inward, but really nothing on the outward. Today, that changed. I did 65 strokes on the leather and at almost every stroke the sound matched both directions. Suddenly I was hearing a nice zing, zing, zing, zing. I'm also noticing that I can "feel" the leather much better.
I don't know if this is as big a deal as it feels like to me, but I'm encouraged nonetheless. And, hopefully, this means that Howard finally is getting more of a spa treatment than a workout as I strop!
In closing, a hearty thanks to those who have been so eager to help me learn, a big encouraging thumbs up to those other newbies out there, and a most reverent moment of silence to those who have given their most precious sacrifice in honor of our country. Having served in combat in Iraq, and lost friends along the way, I know how great each and every member of our uniformed services is and I love them for what they do!

Amen.
Now then. Shaving after three days off is one of the most delightful shaving experiences there is. Going longer might make it better but lets be serious...
