Thanked: 0What Razor?!?
I am new to straight shaving. What razor do I start out with? I like vintage things as well, too many to decide! Help!

Thanked: 1903You should find this useful: Shopping list for beginners - Straight Razor Place Wiki. The FAQ also has an entry for this.
Happy shopping,

Welcome to SRP!
There is no right razor there is a lot of personal preference in your decision. The important thing about Str8s is that it be shave ready. You can start your search in the Classifieds Straight Razors - Straight Razor Place Classifieds or from a reputable vendor. You will also need a brush and soap or cream and a strop. You can shop for these items online many of the vendors advertise here at SRP you can follow the links via their ads.
e sure to check out the Straight Razor Place Wiki as there are many tutorials that will be very helpful.
Be sure to ask any questions that you may have.
Enjoy the journey!

+1 for the classifieds. They're good on the budget and come shave ready from a shaver to a shaver. Almost any vintage blade is going to give you a superior shave...I wouldn't worry too much about this brand or that brand at the moment.
List of things you'll need to start:
Razor
Strop
Brush
Soap
Aftershave
Don't worry about honing at the moment. You'll have about three months of great shaves before you even need a touchup on the blade. After that, you'll have enough experience around here to select the honer of your choice....or start learning to hone yourself.

Any well known member from the classifieds can help you get a nice razor too.

Thanked: 190Not to fuss over a 1st razor. You will likely have multiple razors within a short time. Yep, get one shave ready and you are off and running.
Beware of the ones to avoid which are listed on the SRP site.
