Thanked: 0Honing Question
I just honed my first 2 razors this weekend. My new Aka pin Suita came in so I had to try it out so I used two cheap razors to test my skill. The newly honed blades will pass the HHT and feel the same as my professionally honed razor that I shave with when run over my thumb nail.
My Question is do I need to use another stone or just strop them and try them out?
I am hoping that all the years of using natural stones to hone knives is paying off as I move into razors.

seems like your stone is doing ok.
But you need to hone again cause running the edge over your thumbnail will damage it quite a bit
i suggest learning the TPT or the modefied version of that

Thanked: 3795That's okay. It's what'cha call practice!
I've played with quite a few Jap hones but have never used a Suita. Originally, in my ignorance, I thought they were more coarse and not suitable for final polishing. I've come to understand that is not always the case, but I still don't have a good grasp of the distinctions between many of the Japanese stones.
Could you please post a photo if possible?

Thanked: 0That is it. I think that it performs well, but that is comparison to other stones that I have used on knives only. This is the first stone that I have for razors so I will have to acquire others to give a real comparison. It is a much slower stone than I have used for knives in the past and seems to me to be very fine in grit which is what I was looking for.
I may have to send a razor that I have honed to a more experienced user to try out so that I have a basis for comparison.
Any takers?Last edited by Hazen; 06-14-2010 at 01:58 PM.
