    Default First straight shave

I finally did it, I had my first straight shave today.. It felt great and much different than using my old DE.

I did all the reading I could and wanted to take my time to do right. I wanted to do this weeks ago , but work has been keeping me busy.

5/8 W&B special which is shave ready
    Roony Brush
    Musgo Real shave cream
    SRD paddle strop..

I found that because I took so much time the lather seemed to dry out too fast which did not make me too happy. I shaved my right side only to start.. I did nick my chin a bit . I did find I need to work on the angle a bit.. I did the usual short strokes. In all I think I did fine for the first time. I am obviously going to need more practice, but I'll get it.. Now I know what a sharp straight razor feels like hehehe..

    Good man!

I'm into str8 shaving for 2.5months now and just learned to shave under my chin to get my "cactus" whiskers...pretty red n irritated but very itchy so Ill know it will go away and only get better!..amazing you had it easy on your first try compared to others including myself..

    Congrats on the shave!

When I started out, I was so slow that I would only lather half my face at a time so that the other side wouldn't dry out.

Great start! Taking it slow's not a bad thing. Just re-lather as you need to.

    Default Lather drying out?

    Welcome RKP to SRP!

I share your feelings about good coffee.

When you find your lather drying out on your face during a shave, go ahead and lather again as needed. If the lather in the brush seems to be too dry as you work it into your beard, trickle a little hot water from the tap directly into your brush. That should moisten the lather enough to continue a comfortable shave.

Consider experimenting with über lather. That's what did the trick for me.
    Namaste,
    Morty -_-

Hey, Thanks to everyone for the great encouragement and support. I am glad to finally become a straight razor user now. Everyone here has been quite helpful. I'll keep at this and know it will improve each time.

2 more straight razors arrived yesterday.. More great razors to test and are shave ready..
