Default Help with a shaving pass

If you look at the picture the area with the arrows shows my problem area. I have tried wtg, acg right hand on right side left on left even fliped sides so my right hand shaves the left and left shaves right. I just dont think I am getting it right as even after a great shave everywhere else I have stubble on these two areas?

Default Help with a shaving pass

    Hello, Dllandry:

That area of the neck is a nightmare for many of us whose stubble grows from the center of the neck toward the ears. I still have trouble with it.

Creative stretching and blade angle are ways to overcome the problem. I come at at angle from the ear toward the center, stretching the skin in various ways. Also, shaving south to north on the neck, I angle the razor, say, from the left side of the neck toward the chin.

It's a tough act, because you can cut your throat if not careful. Keep working on it. I would practice this with a dull butter knife to get the feel of it.

    Regards,
    Obie

For this area I place a hand on my cheek and pull up quite hard. This will pull the difficult area above my jawbone and allow me to further smooth it. If your face isn't quite as stretchy as mine you could try moving your head slightly downward while doing this.

    Best of luck!

Take this with a few grains of salt as i've only shaved six times with a straight razor, but here is what i've found works for me. I shave at an angle using the toe (tip) area of the blade from my ear toward the center of my adam's apple... short angled strokes. Thusfar, I've gotten that area BBS every time and have been nick free in that region.
I had tried to "pull" that skin up onto my cheek... but I found a highly angled stroke worked best.
My chin tip in that same plane, I found was best served by pulling it up onto the "facing" vertical plane of my chin.

    DL,
I have a bit of trouble with the area between the two areas you marked, the 90 degree curve of the chin. For the jawline I use the facelift method with decent results so far. Always remember to re-lather. I left a line on my cheek under a sideburn I touched up once thinking it was just a small area, why bother.

I lift the skin a little and go ATG after I have reduced the beard enough. I also start from the neck and go up and ATG as another light pass.

It does take time to find the technique that works best for you.

    Good Luck!

This is what I do. I also found that using the opposite hand works better than the same side hand.
