Thanked: 0best shave ever!
I am still very new to straight razor shaving and I have been using a dovo shavette to sharpen my skills. Today I had the closest most comfortable shave i have ever had. I have been looking at every piece of advice and every video I could get my hands on. Before today my shaves were ok, better than when I was using my fusion power but not exilent. I just thought it was my overall technieque.
I decided to look at every element of my shaving to determine what I was doing wrong. My blade was sharp so there was no problems there. My pre shave prep was changed. I decided to start shaving after I take a shower instead of before. I also started using conditioner to help soften the hair.
Next I looked at how I was making my lather. I think that was were my biggest problem was. The lather always seemed to dry. It took a few try's but I got it figured out.
Then I looked at my blade angle and it was good as far as I could determine. Likewise for my face streching.
Lastly, I started using pre shave oil mixed with vitamin e. The funny thing is it's meant to be used as a pre shave for electric shavers but, it works.
The result of all this was a flawless bbs shave with no skin irritation! I was even able to shave against the grain which is something I had never been able to do before, ever.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for sharing their knowledge and for allowing noobs like me to experience such a wonderful shave! Now I know I will never go back to my five bladed razor
