I do a 3 pass shave and I get a BBS smooth shave, even "against the grain" I can't feel any stubble. If I do a 2 pass shave I can feel a little stubble "ATG".

In the end a shave is steel against whiskers.

My 20 kt. touchstone for a shave is set by the BiC Yellow handled
sensitive skin tossable product.

I can get a better shave with the right DE blade or with
a open razor (str8) but a better shave is not magically free.

Back to the notion of a touchstone. You touch your unknown
gold to the stone and then touch a known bit of gold to the
same stone and compare. Side by side you can tell the difference
but without a reference most cannot tell 15kt gold from 20 ct gold
and if you are looking for 24kt pure gold it gets even harder to
tell without a reference.

I pick on the BiC razor for four key reasons. One reason is that it has
a single blade, two is that it has rather large rinse openings
and three they are inexpensive and commonly available. The
last is that they shave OK.

Any other decent single blade razor can be used as a touchstone.
Without a touchstone it is all blind expectations that are near
impossible to match.

Pictures from me would be useless. My hair is very fine and for me the difference between a decent shave and a superb shave isn't detectable with the naked eye. If I can still feel some whiskers running my fingers gently against the grain, then I touch up with water only to get BBS. If the razor isn't up to the task, it gets lined up for a touch up on the hone(s) before next shave.

I think as Lynn would say its time to start Faceturbating yep you saw it right, I said you must Faceturbate with both hands in all diff directions to see which way you must attack those whiskers that grow in a funky direction, my wife caught me Faceturbating and said what the hell are you doing,so i told her,shes still laughing.

Gotcha. Makes sense that really. I need to take stock of the shave and make note of areas that are difficult to get smooth, making a point of trying a different method on them the next time. I like the single blade idea too Chief cheers for that. It`s not sounding like my razor is ideal at the moment, even though I`ve got it silly sharp it`s not a trusted and known brand on the forum. I have three actually, two are "Best Brand" yeeeeah I know, you don`t have to say it ! lol and one is "Imperial Shave UK" It`s sounds like I`d be better off picking up a trusted razor to make sure I`ve actually got a blade that can hold a true shave ready edge....

LOL Yeeeah... It`s just a little difficult choosing. I`m on a budget but want a trusted brand. I believe 6/8 is best to start with but don`t fully understand why. Width of the blade is it? making it heavier or lighter and more manuverable? Hollow grind or half hollow? I know not what the difference is performance wise..... I`ve asked the same questions in another thread, sorry if I`ve made a mess...

Unless you have a chance to shave with a number of different grinds & sizes you will not know the difference at this stage. 5/8 or 6/8 is fine
Just buy something "shave ready" from someone that will stand by that claim.
Generally " budget" & "trusted brand" don't go together but it's not impossible.
