Pitting and water marks
Just got a new razor and I'm a newbie, I see on a lot of the older razors that they might have some pitting or water marks on them. How do I keep my razor from getting these problems?

A little bit of attention to detail goes a long way. After each shave, you should make sure you completely dry the razor (especially your blade). Then you should strop it (I use 20 linen/20 leather).
After stropping, I put a light coat of oil (mineral or baby) on my razor. I do this with a Q-tip to get a light coating. Once all of that is done, store your razors in a cool, dry place.

This is good information, but I would like to add this, I do not rinse my blades under water, I wipe them off on a towel as I shave, therefore they do not get wet or bump into the faucet which is known to be a bitter enemy of our favorite blades. Keep them away from humidity.

Good advice given, especially about the oil and towl wiping. I only rinse off my blade at the end of the shave and use a towl in between. When I do rinse, I wrap my fingers around the tang and it serves as a physical barrier to water getting into the pivot.

how do you remove a water spot once it stains the blade?

Try some metal polish and a soft cloth. A pencil eraser will sometimes work as well.
