What I learned from my first shave.
So today I received my Dunning's Best 65 I purchased from ShavedZombie during the holiday weekend. Of course I couldn't wait to give it a go and dove right in(head first into the shallow end of the kiddie pool).
Firstly, I don't like the boar brush. I've already ordered a pure badger and some clubman aftershave. We'll see how that goes next week.
Second, my angle was off in curtain areas, which I expected to happen, so I have mixed results. My trouble area definitely under my jawline. My skin is pretty tight in my face and almost laminated directly under my jaw.
Lastly, I need alum block.
If I was a patient man I would've heeded the slow introduction to straight shaving guide I read through twice. Apparently some things never change and I couldn't put the razor down. It took me 3 passing to get a smooth shave on my entire face. I surrendered to the stubble under my jaw and let my razor burned face cool off.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Thanked: 66Bravo!
You probably did better than I did at day one..a boar brush is ideal and a badger for creme..I would compare them before you return it..you probably want a 2nd razor so you can send the other to be homes or hone it yourself..good man!

Good job going all the way!
Your boar brush will soften up with use...once all the hairs begin to split.

I'm going to keep using the boar even after I get the new brush. I have that bug that makes you use something up completely before opening a new one.
I went to wholefood and purchased an off brand alum block deodorant. It has the correct type of alum and salt only in the ingredients. My face was still a bit warm even after a few hours so I put it to use right away. Good investment.

Congrats! I too went for the whole face my first time. Just keep focusing on technique and you will progress faster than you'd think.

It's nice having a reason to want to shave now. I let my scruff go for the week I was waiting to receive the razor. It's not the prettiest beard out there so it's a good thing I was able to shave today.
